I noticed that reporting straight away. He "became" unconscious! They "discovered" he was unconscious! We, the consumers of media, need to demand proper and accurate descriptions of an occurrence like this. We need to insist they describe exactly what happened, and not write a single word that they wouldn't write regarding a white person. I guarantee you that a white person has never been treated in exactly the same way as this man was. Where are the true independent media, questioning what happened here?
In one breath, the police commissioner called for media to avoid "unhelpful" "negative reporting".
In the next, he threw in his own unnecessary and unhelpful comment. "It will also have a significant impact on the security guards and the police officers and NT police have already provided welfare support to the officers involved.”
At this stage he shouldn't be expressing sympathy for the police involved.
I feel and share your rage. How is it that custodial staff are able to decline giving evidence "in case it incriminated them"? Does that not scream that they were, in fact, acting unlawfully?? Makes my blood boil
I have just finished reading your fantastic book (sorry, the during reconciliation week. How can I use my position as a white person to get the actual truth by black witnesses to the forefront after this further blatant murder the NT government wants to have the perpetrators investigate? My heart breaks for all of his family members and the passive language used to disguise the taking of a human life for no reason.
This is so consistent across the Western world. How the story is relayed as though the victim died because of some act of god or nature and not because of the killing hand of the State. This is intentional erasure designed to absolve the oppressors of guilt.
